چکیده
In this issue of Blood, Linkins et al report on a prospective cohort study evaluating the combination of 4Ts (magnitude of thrombocytopenia, timing of onset of thrombocytopenia, thrombosis or other clinical sequelae, and the likelihood of other causes of thrombocytopenia) score and platelet factor 4/heparin particle gel immunoassay (PF4/H-PaGIA) for diagnosis and management of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).

Abstract Background and Objectives Heparin is still a commonly used anticoagulant in prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolic events. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a life-threating adverse drug reaction of heparin. The diagnosis of HIT is made based on two important criteria, firstly clinical evaluation and secondly laboratory testing. In this comprehensive review, the authors w...
متن کاملAn improved definition of immune heparin-induced thrombocytopenia in postoperative orthopedic patients.
BACKGROUND Diagnosis of immune heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is usually based on a fall in platelet count below 150 x 109/L (standard definition of thrombocytopenia). However, this definition may be inappropriate for postoperative patients who often develop postoperative thrombocytosis. We sought to determine an improved definition of thrombocytopenia indicating HIT in postoperative or...

However, the overall contribution of HIT to the medical field is not obvious, especially, in high-stress environments such as the emergency department (ED). The objective of this re...
متن کاملPeripheral Thrombosis and Necrosis after Minimally Invasive Redo Mitral Valve Replacement due to Unknown Etiology: Difficult Diagnosis of Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia
We report on a 75-year-old male with acute onset of peripheral thrombosis causing necrosis of the fingers, elbow, and toes associated with thrombocytopenia after minimally invasive redo mitral valve replacement. Both warfarin and dalteparin were commenced on postoperative day 1 and his INR reached 2.1 on postoperative day 4. On postoperative day 5, the patient developed peripheral thrombosis wh...
